This past weekend The U of T Human-Powered Vehicle Design Team”s bike “Bluenose” took 4th-Place Overall at the 2012 ASME Human-Powered Vehicle Challenge East, with members of AeroVelo an integral part of the team! This was a heated competition with field of 32 high-caliber contenders.

Especially notable were the team”s awards of 2nd-Place in the Design Event and 3rd-Place in the Men”s Drag Race Event. Everyone put in a huge number of long and stressful hours leading up to the competition to make the bike come together and perform. Incredibly, the team rebuilt the innovative steering system on Friday night in time for the drag race, and revised the landing gear system on Saturday night in time for the endurance race, the definition of under-pressure engineering! The team has already started preliminary configuration and design analysis for next year.

Furthermore, nearly the entire student team present at HPVC will be working on the Human-Powered Helicopter Project this summer in Tottenham!

U of T”s “Bluenose”, left, goes head-to-head with Rose-Hulman”s “Carnot Cycle” in the semi-finals of the Men”s Drag Race Event.
